Do i need to be a certified (as in have a certificate from a course) to start my own wedding planning business

September 30, 2009 - 10:00 pm 2 Comments

PLEASE HELP!! DESPERATE . So instead of having completed a course learn by reading books on planning a wedding- being a wedding planner, internet etc – no certificate

Hi There,

It really depends where you are and how the market perception is towards wedding planners in your area. I seriously doubt that many potential customer would even bother to know what the qualifications are.

What is more important is the track record and your credibility. Wedding is not something that you can redo if you find the experience unsatisfactory.

To start up it is best to build your support network and marketing channel. Collect testimonials and build the reputation. market it well and do not over strech your resources. Wedding planning business is more like a relationship referral business and usually people take it once and all those that attend the function will be a good marketing agents. Make sure that all the guest have a good time and know who helped them have a good time.

Another advise is, please differenciate yourself. Be noticably different from the others in a good way.

Good luck.

I want to start my own wedding planning bussiness from home any advice?

I was asked to plan a wedding in october I have done wedding planning for friends before but this one that is coming up is strictly bussiness i want to know where to start

Hi,

After being in the wedding business for over twenty years I have some advice that I promise will work. First order the huge invitation books from the companies that carry a wide variety. You can go to a Hallmark store or anyplace that sells invitations and get the info out of their books to contact the company and order your own. Next your cost on them is 50% of the price in the books so you advertise in a local paper or magazine that you sell wedding invitations half price and you deliver in 3 days. This is the usual delivery time. You will have brides flock to you like crazy. Then you can present your main business as a wedding planner to them. It will help you greatly if you can build up some reference letters from your friends and ask them if it’s ok for your prospective clients to call them. Goodluck.

Any tips for wedding planning from far away?

September 30, 2009 - 9:59 pm 8 Comments

My fiance and I live in Alaska and we are getting married next fall in North Dakota. We don’t have a lot of money to make frequent trips back to plan things so we will be doing most of the planning through phone, mail, email, etc. We want to have a nice wedding without having to spend a ton. Any suggestions on not getting ripped off since we may have to book certain things like reception hall/ dj / flowers etc without the benefit of sitting down face to face with the respective business owners????

Also, any tips on centerpieces/decorations??? We don’t want a bunch of stuff that we will have to find storage for or have to try to bring back on the plane with us.

#1 the internet
#2- call! never book anything without SPEAKING to someone first. a great website doesn’t mean great product.
#3 Ask for actual references. then actually call these former clients for their opinion and thoughts.
#4 centerpieces can be done through the florist. you can also do rentals through most florist which means you can rent centerpieces as well. no storage. no fuss. (we rented candle lanterns surrounded by flowers in our wedding colors).
#5 hopefully you have someone in the area in case of emergency. a good friend you can call to go look at something or meet w/ someone on your behalf. also- this will help to be able to ship things to his/her address instead. you don’t want to cart boxes of favors w/ you on the plane.
#6 get there early. save up now and get to the location about 2 weeks ahead of time. this can prevent disasters. you can clean up any last minute messes and do all the other things like tie ribbon around favors and perfect your seating chart out there.

Good Luck!!!

Wedding checklist site to plan a wedding in less than 1 month?

September 30, 2009 - 9:59 pm 4 Comments

I need a web site that has a complete checklist to plan a wedding in under a month. From something as small as the garter belt to the thank you cards your going to be sending out after the wedding. I need a list that is very detailed. Thanks in advance for every ones help.

You need to go to www.theknot.com! They have every checklist you will ever need! Obviously, the checklist will be drawn out over a longer period of time, but you just need to get things done faster than the list. It’s a great resource though! It helped me plan my wedding in 2 months! Good luck and congrats!

Where can I find a free wedding planning guide or checklist online?

How many "30 something" women DIDN’T start planning their weddings when they were little girls?

September 30, 2009 - 9:59 pm 11 Comments

I watch those wedding shows and it seems like all the women have been planning their wedding since they were little.
I never gave it a thought, I was just wondering if everyone is wedding crazy since childhood.

I’m 29 (close enough to 30) I never did and when I got married we eloped. It was wonderful!!

im planning a wedding reception and need ideas?

i am planning my sisters wedding reception i never have done this before i need ideas and what the sequence of events should be… whats cheap… and whatever other help anyone can give… thanks

The Dollar Tree & Michaels Craft store are a Godsend!
Purchase those little class bowels w/ the scalloped edges & some floating candles. Fill with water about 1/2 way & place a candle in each one. For added color, fill the bottom w/ some colored marbles & tie a pretty ribbon around the top. For favors, purchase those plastic candy bags and fill w/ chocolate kisses and colored ribbon. The mini picture frames from the Dollar store would be nice too. Add a name tag w/ the couples name & date. You can also buy pretty journals and pens, place one in the ceter of each table w/ the floating candle center pieces. People can leave notes of well wishing, advice on a happy marriage, etc.

Fool proof guide to wedding planning?

Can anyone advise of a good uk website / book where I can find some advise on planning my wedding / things that need thinking about? I’ve got loads of time as not planning on marrying this year but I know that time will slip by and there just seems to be so much! Any suggestions would be great.

http://www.weddingplanner.co.uk/Default.aspx?PageId=4

try this site hun, it’s full of tips and advice, and it’s a uk supplier directory so it has huge listings for eveything you will need and you can break it down into the region you live in so you can find your local stockists and suppliers.

hope that helps hunny. xxx
