Alright so, obviously i’ve never been married. I honestly don’t even know the first step to take! I’m going to buy a book on how to plan a wedding but, i was just wanting other peoples advice and ideas. I’m not rich by any means. My parents probably are not going to pay for much. I’ll end up having to pay for it all, so therefore i’ll be on a tight budget. What i really need help with is where to start. Also, do bridesmaids pay for their own dresses or do i?
Any extra advice and ideas would be so much appreciated!! Thanks.
Start with the location. Find out where you would like to have your wedding. Locations such as VFW halls and Elks Lodges are cheap and you can decorate yourself as well as bring in liquor, drinks, and food.
Next start thinking of what kind of colors you would like to incorporate in your wedding. Start shopping around for mom and pop florist places and ask them about discounts or arrangements for the budget bride. I know of a florist that is great for doing budget weddings and she has also done some local celebrities’ weddings. Sounds expensive…but you would be surprised. It is a tough economy all the way around and I know from networking with other wedding professionals that they are willing to offer discounts if asked.
Next decide on the cake and food. You don’t have to book anything yet unless you are crunched for time on a short engagement. Again places that are family owned right now will most likely be your best bet in terms of discounts and budget options. Food can be prepared by a family member and served buffet style if desired or you can shop around for a good caterer.
Then you have the photography option. Is this important to you, do you want to capture all of the candid moments of your wedding and look back and laugh at the fun you had. If you are on a very tight budget, check out Craigslist. You will find a bunch of photographers ranging from amateur to college student majoring in photography. Ask a lot of questions, and find the photographer that you love the most in terms of work and professionalism. Some photographers (such as me) are offering discounts this time of year because of the economy.
During all of this, check out David’s bridal and some small bridal shops. You may find some clearance items from designs that are from past seasons. I walked into a small bridal store in Florida for my now sister n law and we found a beautiful Cinderella dress for less than $500!! It was gorgeous and surprised the hell out of me for the price.
I hope this helps you some and Good Luck!!
