Tips on Planning a wedding!?

February 20, 2010 - 9:17 am 6 Comments

I’m about to start planning my wedding…. I have never done this before.. and would like tips on where to start and how to plan a wedding on a budget. Thanks so much!

Tee

First things first – when I planned my wedding, I followed 3 general planning "truisms." These helped me get in the right mindset. When it came to actually completing tasks, I followed a specific planning timeline; I set goals for myself and checked them off one at a time. I found a useful timeline on Elegala.com – you enter your wedding date, and it gives you a customized checklist; I’ve included the link below.

On to the truisms….

1.Personal Style Rules
The most memorable weddings reflect the unique personalities of each couple exchanging “I dos.” So go ahead and break from tradition. Who needs another cookie-cutter wedding? Remember, not all brides wear white, not all ceremonies take place in a house of worship, not all colors are “blush and bashful.” Forget what your future grandmother-in-law would say and dare to be different.

2.Mind your Inner Bride
Emerge from the pile of fabric swatches, font styles and contracts and…just…breathe. During your engagement, don’t be afraid to step away from it all and take time to enjoy yourself as a single woman. Plan some girls’ nights or enjoy a romantic evening with your fiancé. It doesn’t matter what you do on these “bridal breaks”— just don’t, under any circumstances, think about the wedding.

3.Beware the Budget
No matter your financial situation, every bride faces budget concerns. Regardless of who plans to foot the bill, start saving now to avoid some heated financial discussions. If you absolutely cannot exceed a magic number, aim to spend 15 percent less than that. It’s a great way to avoid last-minute credit card transactions—and wedding-day woes.

I refuse to spend thousands of dollars on a wedding day that will only last a few hours.

Any tips on having a nice cermony & reception without spending a ton of money?

(Don’t have a budget yet… aiming for less than $10k)

im planning a small wedding, any tips?

February 14, 2010 - 1:42 pm 12 Comments

Im planning a small wedding and wanted to know if you guys have any tips for this. I found a blog at http://www.weddingplanningbasics.blogspot.com thats good but it seems new so I just added it to favorites. I want to know more about planning a small wedding because me and my mate are really confused in the cost. If anyone could give me any tips I would be grateful, thanks

Plan it as if you are planning any size wedding, but in smaller version. It also depends on how much money that you want to spend, where are you going to have the ceremony and reception, how much work do you want to put into it, and whether or not it is a formal wedding. If you don’t want to do much work into it then you can have it at a hotel. Some hotels have a minimum number of guests to use one of their banquet rooms. Usually the minimum is 30. The good thing about having it at a hotel is that you can have the out of town guests stay at the same hotel, which you can negotiate the room rate if you have at least 10 guestrooms per-day. They provide the tables, linens and napkins (they have a limited colors that you can choose from), silverware, and sometimes centerpieces. They set-up and clean the room for you. They prepare and serve the food for you and your guests. There are things that you still need to do yourself. Like sending the save the date and invitation cards out, getting the wedding dress and tux, arranging the rehearsal, etc. Go to the hotels where you want to have the wedding at. Some of them can even have the ceremony and reception, but you need to bring your own minister. Ask for wedding packages and compare them one to another. It is a bit more expensive to have it at a wedding but it is worth it. The cost ranges from $50.00 per person to $100.00, depending on what food and beverages that you choose. Some hotels even give a complimentary suite for bride and groom.
