how do you make your wedding reception cheap?

November 30, 2009 - 1:03 am 6 Comments

I am trying to make a budget…
in terms of place… whats the cheapest locations you have found. (such as b & b versus hotel versus another place)

food….

DJ (they tend to be a little pricey so is there an alternative?)

decorations… (something cheap but that still looks good)

anything else i am missing for the reception?

o and does anyone know of a place where i can get a wedding checklist kind of thing.

the colors i am planning is black, white, and a deep red

please any kind of advice or opinion is greatly appreciated!

thank you thank you sooo much
this is for about 50-75 people

the knot.com is the best website it will help you set a budget and know how much to spend on what & you can browse local stuff. also as an alternative to a dj try playing your i pod or music on a laptop

The Knot has a wedding budgeter available to those who register (free). Type in your budget at the top and it bases how much for each category for you. You can delete and add categories, too. It’s a great place to begin.
    Best wishes

Hall- Local VFW or Lions Club Hall
    Food- Catered from a grocery.
DJ- download an ipod with your fave songs (3 hours worth) and buy some speakers and press play
Decorations- Dollar Store, Michaels, Hobby Lobby, Party City… You can always find things on sale, Figure out your budget and go from there.
Checklist- Google it. You can find plenty online. Go to the bookstore and buy yourself a planner and there is usually one in there.
Colors- Easy Colors to Decorate with! Good Choice.
Advice- Budget Budget Budget! Plan far enough in advance and buy as you go. Don’t wait until the last minute to buy everything. When you see it on sale, take advantage of it.
    Good Luck and Happy Planning!
And remember, do it yourself weddings can be very nice. They’re only as tacky as you make them!

    food . . . Do-it-yourself . . . with the help of family members.

DJ . . . ask a friend or family member to serve as DJ.

Decor . . . Use small framed photos of bride and groom, taken at various stages of their lives. Pick up some black frames for the photos at the dollar store. Sprinkle a few red rose petals around the frames.

Wedding checklist. See the Knot’s under "planning tools" on the left.

Love the use of black and white with red accents! I recently attended a wedding where those colors were used . . . and it was lovely! A very elegant look.

    Good luck with your planning.

As for locations? Try a local VFW or Elks Lodge. Often your place of worship (or a family member’s place of worship) will have a hall you can use . . . at little or no cost.

in terms of place… whats the cheapest locations you have found. (such as b & b versus hotel versus another place)

    food….
VFW HALLS ARE GOOD, GOLF COUSES CAN GO EITHER WAY, BARS HAVE HALLS THAT THEY RENT OUT. MAYBE GOOGLE BANQUETS INSTEAD OF WEDDING RECEPTION TO SEE WHAT ELSE COMES UP FOR PLACES.
DJ (they tend to be a little pricey so is there an alternative?)
DJ IS PRICEY THEY CHARGE DOUBLE FOR WEDDINGS BECAUSE THEY HAVE TO PULL PERMITS (AT LEAST THATS THE BALLONY THEY FED TO ME) SO YOU COULD EITHER MIX A CD AHEAD OF TIME OR ASK SOMEONE TO PAY FOR THE DJ FOR A GIFT.
decorations… (something cheap but that still looks good)
EBAY, CANDLES ARE WONDERFUL IF YOUR HAVING 6 OR 7 TABLES YOU CAN EVEN GO TO YOUR LOCAL GROCCERY STORE AND BUY THE BUNCHES OF FLOWERS. GO TO OCEANSTATE JOB LOT OR CHRISTMAS TREE SHOPS FOR CHEAP VASES (TO BE EVEN MORE CRAFTIER GET TALL GLASSES NO ONE WILL NOW). YOU COULD EVEN DO HALF TABLES WITH CANDLES OTHER HALF WITH FLOWERS
anything else i am missing for the reception?

Well wedding surely can be an expensive thing if not planned properly.
I suggest you could start making a budget checklist yourself rather than asking someone else to do it for you. There are a number of sites which would assist you in this like this oneI came across:

    hope it helps.
